Number of Abortions for Year 2017 in USA - Total: 862,320

The most recent abortion numbers that are available are for the year 2017. In that year, there were a total of 862,320 abortions reported in the United States. When viewing any data on abortion statistics, please keep in mind that nationally, abortion reporting is incomplete, at best. At least three states, which includes California, do not report their numbers to the US Center for Disease Control (CDC), and it is estimated that California alone performs approximately 25% of all abortion nationally. This makes it extremely difficult to accurately report on all aspects of abortion. It appears the most accurate numbers are actually those provided by the Guttmacher Institute, which includes California' abortion numbers.

- All figures and data (above) calculated from 2017 total abortions of 862,320, and 2016 chart "When Women Have Abortions" statistics, both reported by the Guttmacher Institute. Actual number of abortions in 2016 is estimated to have been approximately 31,000 more abortions than in 2017 - as the number of abortions continues to drop annually in the United States. The 2016 "Chart" rate of "When Women Have Abortions" were applied to 2017 abortion totals (as 2017 "When Women Have Abortions" numbers were not available). We believe the above numbers provide the most accurate picture of 2017, even though the 2017 rates of "When Women Have Abortions' could vary from 2016 numbers. Also, we are grateful to The Center for Bio Ethical Reform (AbortionNo.org) for some of the images provided on this site.
